To develop capacity and address mental health and psychosocial wellbeing needs in Sri Lanka at the individual, family, and community levels.
The need for an institution to deal with victims of war saw the establishment of the Association for
Health and Counselling (AHC) with the support of Quaker Peace and Service in 1988. Since then, it
has evolved into a training centre for Counsellors, Psychosocial Trainers in ‘community mental
health’ and in developing psychosocial skills among school teachers, public officers and community
workers. Counselling and allied services are provided free of charge. It implements psychosocial
support programs for the past three decades at the selected communities in northern and eastern
part of Sri Lanka. Shanthiham publishes books and maintains library for students, community
workers and mental health professionals.
