• SHANTHIHAM an overview.

The need for an organization to deal with victims of torture and psychological stresses of armed conflict in the North was conceived in 1987 and saw the emergence of the Association for Health and Counseling in 1988 with the support of Quaker Peace & Service, located in Jaffna. The very cause whose effects it was to address, reduced the premises to rubble on the 8th of August 1990 by aerial bombardment and was relocated in its present premises, which again underwent a similar tragic fate following the mass exodus of 1995 and was resurrected in 1997 with the timely intervention of peoples of Canada to whom the Association and the population at large are grateful. Parallel to making the premises habitable the services provided continued without a break. ..............
